Counting ObjectsShow students a collection of 4 nearly identical OBJECTS not arranged in a pattern. Ask them how many OBJECTS there are. If the student is successful continue with the following 8, 12, 16, 24 and ask if they can count in ways other than ones.
Count by Ones Touching and moving: Pointing Nods head, moves lips Mentally counts in head Skip counts or use multiples Visually use patterns to count. If not apparent
ask them how they did it. Summary For objects of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24. Student knows cardinality (identifies the value of objects). For objects of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24. Student counts by more than ones. Counted by 2s, 5s, other Student uses visualization abilities to recognizes patterns of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to identify cardinality.
